Japanese brand, Shu Uemura is combining eastern beauty with western glamour in the latest hair care, styling, skin care and make up innovations. I was sent over their top 5 hair styling products for review, but given my current hair routine I’ve only reached for three of the products and don’t see any use for the other two any time soon. For the purpose of my review, I’ll be reviewing my top three favourite hair products by Shu Uemura.
This spray can be used for air drying your hair or prior to blow drying. I use it as soon as I come out of the shower after washing my hair as a leave in conditioner/detangler and absolutely love how it helps with detangling my hair but the results are even better. Immediately after using it, I noticed how much softer my hair was once blow dried. Ever since dying my hair, going from almost black to blonde, it can cause some damage and as a result, my hair requires some TLC. I used to reach for Moroccan oil, but I’m not sure if it’s because my hair is used to it and they do say you’re supposed to switch up your products regularly, but it just wasn’t cutting it. Shu Uemura’s Wonder Worker true to its name has done wonders for my hair routine.
The spray is ideal for all hair types and the active ingredient is camellia oil – one of the most rapidly absorbed oils, providing deep nutrition and long-lasting lustre. It helps smooth any frizzies, makes your hair softer while nourishing, moisturizing and protecting your hair from every day pollutants and UV exposure. It’s also humidity resistant.
The instructions say you can use 1-2 pumps starting at the root working through the ends of your hair before shampooing or after to achieve glossy locks. First off, with all the hair on my head, 1-2 pumps didn’t do anything, I had to use more like 5-6. I didn’t really notice a visible difference in my hair when using it as a pre-shampoo treatment, but it’s my go-to hair product when I’m straightening my hair and want that sleek, straight look. I prep my hair by first spraying Wonder Worker throughout my wet hair and brush it through. I then blow dry my hair, then straighten with a straightener. I set my hair by using a pump or two and working it through the more dry areas of my hair – which is the bottom half. The end result is soft, silky, shiny hair.
The active ingredient in this product is camellia oil and it doesn’t leave my hair feeling greasy at all. I highly recommend this to anyone with dry, frizzy or colour treated hair, trying to achieve one of the hottest looks this season – silky, sleek hair.
The texture wave spray is a dry workable spray, offering buildable texture and long lasting movable hold. It’s great for achieving another one of the season’s hottest looks – effortless beach waves (see below), as it gives your hair texture. Beach waves are not to be confused with soft curls. For soft curls, I still recommend a soft hold hair spray, however if you’re looking to create more texture in your hair, this spray is perfect. It does leave your hair feeling a bit tacky, similar to how it would feel when coming out of salt water – but not as bad. I use this after blow drying and styling my hair with my largest Leyla Milani Curling Wand to set the waves. Be sure to spray from a distance as recommended on the bottle, because this product packs a lot of punch!
