Natural Beauty: Soon To Be Extinct?

Is it me, or all of today’s beauty idols surgically enhanced and have exaggerated features?  I think Tina Fey put it best:

“Now every girl is expected to have Caucasian blue eyes, full Spanish lips, a classic button nose, hairless Asian skin with a California tan, a Jamaican dance hall ass, long Swedish legs, small Japanese feet, the abs of a lesbian gym owner, the hips of a nine-year-old boy, the arms of Michelle Obama, and doll tits. ”

Some that come to mind are Kim Kardashian (of course), Lilly Ghalichi, Nicki Minaj and Megan Fox.  All these girls have a combination of the perfect pout, Barbie cut nose and exaggerated curves on a skinny frame, which realistically would not be attainable through natural means.  However, more and more, you’re seeing up and coming models striving for a similar look.  What example does this set for the young impressionable girls out there?

A friend and I always get into a debate about if she’s had work done, is she still as beautiful.  To him it doesn’t matter, as long as the end result looks good.  For me personally, there’s something to be said about NATURAL beauty.  Surgical enhancements have become so mainstream that it’s hard to tell what’s real or fake.  Society is putting unrealistic expectations of what girls should look like.  I mean, lets go through what the average Hollywood starlet has gotten done in terms of enhancements – eyelash extensions, hair extensions, fake nails, rhinoplasty, lip injections, liposuction (be it surgical or laser), botox injections, breast augmentation and butt augmentation.  Now when I look at celebrities, it’s very rare that you find one that hasn’t gotten something done.  I remember a time that plastic surgery was just dedicated to Hollywood and I would watch Bollywood movies and take pride in the fact that these Bollywood beauties embrace their natural beauty.  But now, it’s mainstream in Bollywood too!  Many women in Brazil and Venezuela view plastic surgery as a means to get a rich husband.  In South Korea, when you graduate from University, your parents encourage you to get the double eyelid surgery, like it’s a right of passage into adulthood!  It’s literally EVERYWHERE!!!  This leads me to wonder, will natural beauty soon be extinct?

With all this plastic surgery, I feel that every girl is starting to look the same.  Take Kim Kardashian for example.  Before, she was exotic and different, and now she looks like every other Caucasian girl with olive skin and long dark hair.  There’s no one definition of beauty.  I find it’s the quirks and the unique qualities that each of us have that make us beautiful.  We’re imperfectly perfect.  Although I can’t stop this madness, I would like to shout out a few of the remaining natural* beauties out there in no particular order.

  1. Eva Mendes
  2. Emmanuelle Chriqui
  3. Penelope Cruz
  4. Kate Moss
  5. Julianne Moore
  6. Lupita Nyong’o

Please note, this is by no means a post to offend any body who’s gotten any plastic surgery.  It is a personal choice and I choose natural.

*This is based on my opinion.  I’ve researched on the internet to see if they’ve had plastic surgery done and can’t find anything definitive.
