Red lips – the iconic glamorous evergreen look that never goes out of style. I often hear people say, “I love the look, but I can never pull it off. Red lipstick doesn’t suit me”. I too used to feel like this, until I started experimenting with different red lipsticks. Red lipstick is for EVERYONE, it’s just a matter of finding the right red lipstick for you. I walk you through on how to find the red lipstick for your skin tone.
I visited MAC this past weekend and asked one of their resident make up artists for her recommendations on what red lipsticks they recommend based on different skin tones. One lipstick may look bright pink on one skin tone and look like a dark purple on the next. Often times you need to try it on to see how that lipstick is going to look on you. What I love about MAC is that you get one on one attention, you can try it on and if after you’ve purchased it, if you realize you made a mistake, keep the receipt and they’ll gladly do a return.
Here’s my shortlist of 4 MAC red lipsticks, where one of them is sure to work as your go to red lip.
1) Ruby Woo
This one has a blue undertone and a matte finish. I absolutely love Ruby Woo and is MY red lip choice. I find this one is universal and suits a wide variety of skin tones.
2) MAC Red
This one also has a blue undertone and like Ruby Woo suits a wide variety of skin tones. However, unlike Ruby Woo, MAC Red has a satin/gloss finish. Again, it’s a matter of preference, but for my red lip, I prefer a matte finish.
3) Russian Red
Russian Red has an orange undertone and a matte finish. This one is ideal for yellow skin tones.
4) Viva Glam
Viva Glam is more of a burgundy red and is great for people with darker skin tones
